Desiderata Valley: part three

Contrary: Edward and Opal Contrary continually excel at the new things they try. Both are avid learners, enjoy a variety of sports, science enthusiasts and regularly attend conventions in Opal's handmade costumes. As such they're known far and wide as the most personable eccentrics. As parents they've supported their son in his interests, given him space and love but still find themselves to be outsiders in his life. The situation is "rather baffling". As a child, Rick looked up to his parents. He shared with them an avid interest in science fiction, an innate love of animals and nature. Unfortunately, his parents' reputation overshadowed him at school. He was never the nerdy kid but instead he was the kid with the parents who made nerd kind of cool without any of it rubbing off on Rick. He is apprehensive to try new things because it feels like anything he does his parents will outdo him on but they'll be so nice about it that he will feel bad for being annoyed. He can't wait to leave home so he can start a life of his own. In the meantime he's glad to have Violet Jocque around.

Jocque: Sophia met Marcel in a class on nutrition. Sophia had been suffering to stay thin despite her intense training schedule or perhaps due to the stress of it. She'd been ordered by her coach to take the class and was bored until she met Marcel. His jovial disposition and their study sessions led to an affection that persisted even as their relationship became a long distance one. Marcel proposed over the phone and they were married not long afterward. They bought a house in Desiderata Valley because it was close to her team's training camp. Not long after that they had Violet. Sophia did her best to split her time between work and raising a daughter but found this barely manageable with her tight exercise regime. Luckily, Violet was a precocious child who spontaneously joined in on Sophia's exercise and sports activities. Now that Violet is a teenager and things are calmer, Marcel is planning to open his own restaurant. Marcel has enjoyed the hustle and bustle of living with Sophia and Violet but he's hardly had time to focus on his own goals. Still, he thinks he'd like to have a few more children if Sophia was keen on the idea. Though Violet is easy going by nature, she find sports to be an enjoyable outlet for her frustrations. She has a wicked sense of humor and hopes to someday be on the stage. In the meantime she's content entertaining her friends and family.

Traveler: The Travelers spent a year drifting from place to place. Trent had a blast camping out under the stars with only all his worldly possessions in a bag. Trisha, on the other hand, hated it. When Trent proposed the idea he never said they'd need to have cheap accommodations or that her belongings would be relegated to a storage container in Sim City. Finally, after a stop in Sim City to visit friends and deposit a few trinkets in their storage unit, Trisha put her foot down telling Trent that enough was enough. Having decided to visit some friends in the south they argued during the drive causing them to take a wrong turn and end up in Desiderata Valley. Exhausted, hungry and cranky by the time they entered town they stopped in at Gustav's Grocery for a bite to eat. Trisha chatted with a real estate agent sitting at a table near them and by the end of the evening they'd used the last of their savings to buy a house nearby. Now that they're settled into the house and moved out of their storage unit, Trisha is busy with her plans of opening a deli and bakery featuring exotic foods from their travels. She's excited to swap tall tales with the locals but still have a flexible schedule for going on adventures with her family. Though he finally caved in to Trisha's demands, Trent remains resentful at being forced to put down roots. He has nightmares of becoming a boring old man in a suit living out golden years filled with regret. However, he is intrigued by the Desiderata Valley lifestyle and the secrets of the vast desert expanse beyond the hills. Tina isn't sure how to feel. Her parents are each trying to court her over to their side but the pressure is overwhelming. She's none too keen either about starting back at a normal school but she can't deny that the new house beats waking up in a soggy tent.

These are so great. :D I love how all the houses have the same building style, but are still so personalized inside. And the gardens all look excellent. I like how the Travellers' house is decorated with different "exotic" styles from their travels.

At first I figured the similar building style would help me cut down on the CC I used but no such luck. The Travellers' house was fun though I have far more Asian influenced "exotic" CC than elsewhere. Personally I think they would have gone to places where they'd think they were "roughing it". Still, Trisha would have bought things that felt luxurious imo.

More lovely houses with unique interior styles that really do capture the personalities of your families. I'm especially fond of your landscaping too. :)

I promised myself I wouldn't download anymore plants but I really did need the bamboo for the Travellers' makeover ;) I had to stop myself with the Contrary's though, I was damn close to giving them their own backyard jungle.

Its amazing the unusual details you put into your houses, I've been going over them wondering how you did this - or that! :)
What I especially love is reading your backstories of each family.
The steampunked Contrary's is awesome!

When I saw steampunked Goths on GOS I knew I had to have a steampunk sim family. Opal and Edward seemed too buttoned up and dull in my previous makeovers so I went all out with them. Plus it gave Opal a reason to own a sewing machine.

That's an awesome compliment! I love seeing screenshots that make me want to drop everything and play a particular version of sims, glad I could do the same!
